Move over Whopper, it’s taco time.
Burger King is now selling $ 1 BK Crispy Tacos for a limited period of time.
In a move that’s sure to delight the late-night bar crowd, BK is aiming to compete with Taco Bell and Chipotle by getting into the Mexican fast-food game.
It’s not yet known how long the BK Crispy Tacos — which were test-marketed in Western states — will be available.
“We’ve seen success with tacos in those [initial] restaurants and knew it was time to bring this West Coast favorite nationwide,” Chris Finazzo, president of North America for Burger King, says in a statement.
Fast food chains are increasingly using limited-time menu items to build hype — and tacos are a “very popular” way to “get a slice of that action,” Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, a research and consulting firm, tells CNN.
Though it may seem like an off-theme menu item, according to Thrillist, tacos actually were available at the burger franchise as recently as 2010.
Burger King is not the first chain to depart from their usual menu standards. Last year, IHOP famously faked a name change to IHOB, to promote their line of burgers at the time.
